In Laredo, Texas, the Rio Grande divides many families; half of a family may live in Texas, while the other half lives in Mexico. Though that divides many, developmental disabilities and autism also isolate families from their loved ones. Mary Ann Tello—a BCBA in Laredo—empathizes with those families’ pain and wants to help. Paloma Academy is a day school for children with behavioral disabilities opening in Melbourne, Florida. The academy, partnering with Hi-5 ABA, offers compassionate evidence-based behavioral therapy to children, regardless of diagnosis. The founders named the school Paloma because it means “Dove”– a symbol of peace. “Paloma” also happens to be the name of Picasso’s youngest daughter. Picasso was able to show unique beauty with each piece of art. This academy wants to highlight the beauty and uniqueness of each child.
Hi-5 ABA welcomes new franchisee Dr. Keith Belton, BCBA-D, from Victorville, California. When Keith wasn’t operating his restaurant franchise, he helped children in the neighboring school system work through behavioral struggles. For years he worked during the day and went to school at night until he earned his BCBA and, ultimately, a doctorate. Now, he owns a Hi-5 ABA franchise working full-time at something he loves to do.
